English 306J 1/18/10

Women love magazines such as Cosmo, Shape, and Victoria's Secret. Women also hate magazines such as Cosmo, Shape, and Victoria's Secret. The way the models and celebrities look in these magazines can make a women feel happy, satisfied, grateful, powerful, determined, courageous, and just overall better about themselves. They can also make a women feel sad, miserable, inferior, fat, worthless, hopeless, offended, pissed off, and depressed.
The way they make women feel good is by showing girls how to look sexy, make them feel in control, show them how to more powerful, give advice on how to improve your relationship with your significant other, or even make you feel good because of the stories and advice they give you on how to keep your man happy in bed.
At the same time, those same examples from above can make women feel slutty due to the way they show models with little to no clothing on, and say how it's fine to dress this way, because if you do, then you'll get that cute guy you like to come over and talk to you. Maybe he'll even buy you a drink or two. How about this one? When a magazine shows or talks about how being super thin is the only way to be happy and once again, get the attention from a guy.
I say these things because as a male, I kind of feel bad for women. All you want to do is please those around you, but it's just so difficult to be both yourself and what others want from you. You want to dress sexy and feel confident about your body and your looks, but at the same time you're worried about being labeled as a slut.
Maybe if you hear it from a guy's perspective (well maybe just mine since I can't speak for all guys) you'll feel better about who you are naturally. As a guy, when I go out or just see girls around campus, I like it more when a girl show's up in a nice pair of jeans with a cute top on that doesn't have her breast all out. Don't get me wrong, I like girls in a dress and heels, but don't get carried away with the length of the dress. To me, if the dress is at an appropriate length, it'll keep more guys looking at what's more important about your body, which would be your face, eyes, smile. That to me is the most important part of a woman's body. Hope this helps you girls out.
